the great Theo caper
Passengers: Theo Crawford, and you
Location: Storage
Date: Feb. 4
Summary: Theo tries an experiment that is in NO WAY also a cry for help.
Warnings: just general Theo-ness
[The signs warning inmates not to enter the storage facility are no deterrent to Theo, even though he's almost immediately run over by a freight mover the moment he steps through the doors. At least he's scrappier than he comes off as, even if right now most of his senses are fairly dulled. He makes in it inside into an isolated corner of the warehouse without getting crushed like a tin can, at least.
After a conversation with Silco, Theo wanted to test a theory. Can an inmate go "missing"? If an unpaired inmate hid somewhere sprawling like the storage facility, with no one able to track them, exactly how long will it be until it's noticed, and will they be able to be found?
Now was the best time for Theo to try this out. He didn't want to be paired with a warden, even if he knew he couldn't avoid it forever. He didn't want to talk or interact with anyone, actually, and he hadn't for almost four days. Theo quite pointedly ignored everyone, barely ate, laid in his bunk all day and then walked through the ship at night once everyone was asleep. He couldn't focus, or even want to pretend he existed as his body and mind tried to recoup from his trauma prior to arrival, and also cope with the quiet mental meltdown from being removed from his addictions.
So, finally, he gets his shit together and tries to pull off this stunt. He sets out after it seems like enough little are asleep. He had saved up some food and drinks that will last outside refrigeration for at least a little while, brought a few books, and his powered-off communicator all wrapped up in one of his bedsheets. Like a little space hobo. He finds a place in the warehouse that doesn't seem to be accessed too much, hopefully enough out of the way of the freight movers that he won't wake up being squished flat, and sets up his new camping spot. And now, he waited.
While he much would rather keep his communicator powered off, he needs the clock to keep an eye on the time. No wardens will get any texts back, but an inmate might. Sleeping during the day, he sneaks out at night to sneak off to the bathrooms. Obviously this routine want going to last indefinitely, he only has to get used to it for a couple of days, at most... right?
He's not so convinced. No one here actually cared about him. The other inmates definitely couldn't be trusted, and wardens were only paid to act like they care. If they showed up to find him, it'll just be because they'd get in trouble if he died it something. Obviously.
Maybe this trick only works overnight, or maybe it really is a couple of days. If you track him down and find him during daytime hours, Theo will be curled up asleep on the sheet, unable hear anyone approaching due to the ambient noise in the warehouse. If it's at night, he'll be reading a book, looking surprised at first, followed quickly by disappointment.
OOC note: if no one tracks him down, by the night of the 6th he'll wander back into the dorms and attempt to act like nothing happened. Which I will write a different prompt for. <3]
