It's taken a while to find him, along the tiered rows of glass and green. Tracking is only worth so much. Alice hugs the elbows of a careworn sweater, its thin thread and stretched dye recreated perfect; artificial.
There's a similar alienation to the order here - plants jarred for ease of cultivation, display. Spreading only into their own little cells. Never to touch, or tangle.
"You figure out the names of these yet?" A harvest droid beetles past, whirring only just from her path. "The locals aren't chatty."
When Alice approaches, Theo is in the midst of cleaning up for the day. He doesn't hear her approach, engrossed in his work, and he jumps slightly when she announces herself.
"Shit. I-- Yeah. Most of 'em." He wraps a knuckle on one of the nearby jars, a small digital display now bearing its name at the bottom. "Still researching a few."
He wipes his hands on his Peregrine-issued clothes; no getting soil on his suits, thank you, not even his old one. He turns to the table again, his back to Alice, getting the rest of his supplies and tools in order.
"So. You drew the short straw this month, huh." He saw the video with the listings before coming to the greenhouse. He vacated the room adjacent to Lucifer's in a hurry, scuttling back to the dorm immediately. Their last session went poorly.
oh my god sorry for the delay on this, happy to boomerang as i'm around / you're back from con
"I don't think I understand half the things Jason's told me." Theo scratches the back of his head, recalling how he has to stop and mentally translate every other text he's gotten from that kid.
Theo's comm is propped up on a stand on a nearby table, displaying diagrams from a library book. The pages show a plant that is similar, if not the same, to the one in the jar nearby. Theo only shrugs, though, shaking his head and grumbling.
"Mostly I haven't. Some I have. I told Lucifer I'm not a botanist." He flips through the pages of the book, not looking for anything in particular.
"I found books on Meodriotope plant life, so those I have mostly named. A lot of these other ones..." He pulls over another jar of one that's been really puzzling him, a strange, spikey green and yellow weed that resembles nothing he's ever seen before.
"They have some things in common no matter where they're from, right? Particular parts, characteristics, whatever it is. You can cross reference it then just keep looking until you get close, anyway." He frowns at the strange alien plant, tossing his hands up briefly in frustration. "Then there's shit like this. I haven't a fucking clue."
He finally turns to Alice, looking her over for a moment. Well, at least he was out from under Lucifer's thumb for awhile. It couldn't get worse than that.
"So there you go. That's what I sit and do here all day for the most part. Sometimes I prune something or repot something." He shrugs again. It was better than mopping the floors, anyway.

She bends down to squint at the title. Doesn't recognize the script (that's alien plants for you).
"God, how'd you even figure these out?"
